Supporting Emergent Bilinguals' Literacy & Language Development (Virtual)
Series I: March 1st & March 15th: 9-11am
Series II: April 26th & May 3rd: 4:30-6pm
Learning about the world through multiple languages can be both a beautiful and challenging experience for our youngsters. In this two-session series, consider the various assets of our multilingual learners and their stages of language acquisition. Learn about the four critical domains of language and plan for actionable instructional strategies related to vocabulary development, total physical response (TPR), peer interactions, and making cross-linguistic connections. Session I will focus on vocabulary development and Session II will focus on engagement strategies. Topics covered include:

Instructional strategies for teacher modeling & student practice
Language as an asset

In order to meet our readers where they’re at, we need to understand how to match their reading behaviors with effective prompting and practice. This series take us through an overview on the complex process of reading and then through each phase of decoding skill development. Learn how to differentiate your feedback for readers who are well on their way with cracking the code, as well as for those who are still in the pre-reading stage, plus everyone in between.
